d20 Modern: Heavens and Earths
A Breathsnatcher is a monstrous humanoid that lives between humans looking for the opportunity to steal their breath. They average 6 feet tall and weigh about 150 pounds.
IN FOLKLORE: “It moved with grace, each step perfectly placed according to the primitive instinct of the hunter. Oh, he could work his way into the souls of those who live the human way – it took only a purr, a rub, and a seductive dance. But all of that was but camouflage for the working of evil. Oh yes, the hunt might take many days, but patience was his game, if not art. As he could hold her paw in midstep for an hour, if need be, so he could bide his time until all seemed safe, when all caution had slipped away in slumber. It would be then, in the quiet midnight in the house, when he would make his way up the stairs, through the opened door, up and onto the bedcovers ever so lightly. Then pacing each step with the whisper of each breath, closer and closer he would come. He would breath with the human, exchanging breath for breath, until … he had snatched the child’s breath away. Then into the night, he would lose himself forever, to work his way into another human home.”

IN GAME TERMS:
They average 6 feet tall and weigh about 150 pounds.
Breathsnatchers have the following traits:
Clawing Smoke (Su): Once every 1d4 rounds, a breathsnatcher can expel a 30-foot cone of magic smoke. The smoke grants one-half concealment to creatures in its periphery and full concealment to characters obscured by more than 5 feet of smoke. In addition, any creature within the cone must succeed at a Fortitude save (DC 14) or get smoke in their lungs.
Holding one’s breath doesn’t help, as tendrils of smoke actively try to invade the lungs. This magic smoke begins to rip at the lungs and surrounding organs, dealing 3d4 points of damage per round. The affected creature can attempt another Fortitude save each subsequent round to cough out the semivaporous menace.
Snatch Breath (Su): As a full-round action, the breathsnatcher can steal the breath from any adjacent creature with –1 or fewer hit points. This instantly kills the creature and grants the breathsnatcher damage reduction 15/+1 for 1 hour per Hit Die of the victim.
Fast Healing 5 (Ex): A breathsnatcher heals 5 points of damage each round so long as it has at least 1 hit point remaining.
Vulnerabilities (Ex): Pure oxygen poisons the Breathsnatcher, forcing him to make a Fortitude save (DC:20) or take 3d10 of damage. This damage doesn’t heal with the Fast Healing ability. A leas concentration of Oxigen could diminish the use of his special quialities, attacks and abilities.
